Taxidermy
Taxidermy is the age-old art of conserving an animal’s body through mounting or stuffing, for display or study. This art is practiced by taxidermists. Animal specimens are often, portrayed in a lifelike state. Taxidermy is usually performed on vertebrates (mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and less commonly on amphibians) but it can also be done with larger insects and arachnids under some circumstances. Taxidermy takes on numerous forms and purposes including hunting trophies and displays for museums, or for study. Museums use taxidermy as a method to record species, including those that are extinct and threatened in the form of study skins and life-size mounts. Taxidermy is sometimes also used as a method to memorialize pets. Some of the most popular methods of taxidermic preservation are the traditional skin mount, the freeze-dried mount, which is essentially the mummification of the animal. Reproduction mounting involves creating a replica of the desired animal. Recreation mounting is a combination of a freeze-dried mount and a reproduction mount, depending on how much of the animal remains intact at the time of proposed taxidermic preservation.
The taxidermy store is available in the communities they serve to accept intake of specimens by hand and consult with clients about their desired finished result. Once the intake consultation is made, pricing is given and if the client accepts, the job will begin. Taxidermy orders can be completed in a matter of weeks while others may take an entire year. Preserving stuffing and mounting animals can be rewarding mentally and financially. Proprietors of these stores can manage operations traditionally with pen, paper and calculator or with more advanced software (SaaS) technologies. When it comes to invoicing it is important to offer clients simple and modern taxidermy payment methods.
